Women hold two-thirds of our country’s student debt.

Yes, you read that right — women hold $929 billion of the United States' $1.7 trillion student debt balance.

When we look at these statistics, it’s not hard to see how student debt is making it nearly impossible for many women to afford their basic living expenses and plan for their futures.

As this Women’s History Month comes to a close, we’re thinking of the courageous women across the country who are advocating for their futures through the fight for student debt cancellation.

Canceling student debt is not just an economic justice issue — it’s a racial and gender justice issue too. Black women owe 22% more in student debt than white women and more student debt than any other demographic group.
