Florida Governor Signs Bill that Stops Teaching Sexual Orientation to Young Children
Governor Ron DeSantis signed the strangely controversial bill Monday ( Reuters). From another story: Dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by critics, the law is intended to restore power to parents to determine when and how their children should learn about such sensitive subjects. Contrary to its misleading nickname, the bill does not outlaw teachers, administrators, or students from using that word. Rather than a bigoted effort to ostracize LGBTQ students and faculty, the bill is explicit that it is designed to keep curriculum about sexuality out of kindergarten through third-grade classrooms ( National Review). From the nutty governor of Oregon: In Oregon, we say gay. I’m horrified and outraged by the anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation that was just signed in Florida, making schools a less safe space for LGBTQIA+ kids. Oregon will always be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place — no matter one’s sexual orientation or identity ( Twitter).

Disney Announces Fierce Opposition to Bill Keeping Florida Children from Early Indoctrination
With an absurd statement that appears to show they have no clue what the bill actually says ( Twitter). From Guy Benson, who includes a thread of his take on the bill: 1) Is Disney opposed to the part that bars sexual/gender identity instruction for K-3 students? Or another part of the bill? 2) Has Disney put out a statement this forceful on the genocide in China, where they eagerly do business? Trying to pinpoint their ‘corporate values’ ( Twitter). Teachers union president Randi Weingarten revealed she doesn’t care at all what parents think as she tweeted: Today Gov DeSantis signed Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill. While the Gov’s intent is political the non political consequences are very real & very damaging. It hurts children, hurts families and makes it hard for teachers to do their jobs ( Twitter).

McLaughlin: Cancel the Cancelers
And only the cancelers. He argues “ Universities should reclaim the power to discipline students until they learn that this is America and act like it. To that end, the disciplinary tools available should be put to use. But if students manage to graduate high school and college and law school without developing the capacity to tolerate disagreeable speech, the legal system itself will have no choice but to take a stand to prevent them from using the tools of the law to close down the marketplace of ideas.”
