Simba’s story is heartbreaking, full of suffering. He was just a sickly infant, a few weeks’ old, when found in a garage near Moscow in Russia, in a cardboard box. A victim of the illegal wild pet trade, the tiny cub was terrified and starving, missing half his fur. Mewling in distress, so weak he could barely stand.

Thankfully, Simba was rescued by a sanctuary in Russia. They nursed him back to health and asked if we could offer him a lifetime home. How could we say no?!
Just before Christmas, with restrictions due to Covid lifted, we could move this other little Lion of Lockdown ( [link removed] &utm_medium=email&utm_source=dotmailer&utm_content=Could-you-care-for-Simba-?-Lets-give-this-orphan-the-loving-home-he-deserves#donate-today ) to a halfway house with our friends at Natuurehulpcentrum, in Belgium. But, this is just the start of his story.
With your help, we want to give Simba a forever home at Animanatura sanctuary in Italy – already home to two rescued Born Free big cats – Elsa the lioness from a circus, and Sandro the tiger, from a zoo.

Animanatura are building Sandro a new enclosure. So, this summer, his temporary enclosure will become available for Simba, while we create Simba’s own, brand new, purpose built space.
As you can see, looking after Simba has already been a big team effort. But, we think he’s worth it and that every lion, however small, is precious.
