John,

I hate when I’m right about these sorts of things.

Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was one of the people driving the effort to overturn the 2020 election and prop up Trump’s Big Lie. This information came to light through evidence obtained by the January 6th Committee.

And here’s the part that’s hard to stomach: Clarence Thomas was the ONLY justice who voted to allow Trump to withhold documents from the Committee. Was it because he knew there was incriminating evidence showing his wife was one of the people driving the effort to overturn the 2020 election?

Here’s a sample of some of the things Ginni Thomas texted Trump’s chief of staff:
  • “Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!"

  • “Sounds like [Trump attorney] Sidney [Powell] is getting inundated with evidence of fraud. Make a plan. Release the Kraken and save us from the left taking America down.”

  • “...we just cave to people wanting Biden to be anointed? Many of us can’t continue the GOP charade.”

  • “We are living through what feels like the end of America. Most of us are in a listening mode to see where to fight with our teams."
I’ve been sounding the alarm, making the case that Ginni Thomas’ work – particularly her financial stake in groups trying to overturn the 2020 election – compromises her husband’s impartiality when he’s ruling on these issues.

But this is a whole new level, John. Justice Thomas must recuse himself from any further cases involving the 2020 election or the January 6th investigation.

Not surprisingly, Thomas has not recused himself. Why? Because there is no code of ethics governing the conduct of Supreme Court justices. This type of situation is precisely why Senator Chris Murphy and I introduced the Supreme Court Ethics Act, to create and enforce a code of ethics so that Supreme Court justices cannot subvert our democracy. Can you make a contribution now to help me continue the fight to hold people like Clarence and Ginni Thomas accountable?
