Dear John,
Maine’s electric utilities need to be held accountable to Maine ratepayers and our climate future.
LD 1959 Report A helps carve a path to provide better service from Maine’s electric utilities, build a more resilient electric grid, and hit Maine’s ambitious climate goals detailed in the Mills Administration’s nationally-recognized Climate Action Plan: Maine Won’t Wait.

The version of LD 1959 that we are supporting— Report A —has been brought forward by Senators Stacy Brenner and Eloise Vitelli. This report achieves two essential goals:
1.
It
establishes
strict
new
performance
metrics
and
a
report
card
system
for
Maine’s
utilities
to
ensure
they
are
fulfilling
their
duties
to
provide
good
service
at
reasonable
cost
—and
imposes
mandatory
financial
penalties
if
they
fail;
and
2.
It
creates
a
new
integrated
grid
planning
process
that
will
require
utilities
to
be
active
participants
in
the
transition
to
clean,
affordable
energy
that
powers
our
homes,
businesses,
and
transportation.
Grid
planning
is
a
critical
part
of
designing
the
grid
of
the
future
that
we
need
to
achieve
Maine’s
climate
goals
and
save
Mainers
millions
of
dollars
on
their
electric
bills.

MCV worked closely with legislators, other environmental groups, and energy experts to make the original legislation better . Report A expands the performance metrics covered by the bill, strengthens accountability measures, and requires hitting Maine’s climate goals to be at the center of utilities’ planning going forward.
LD 1959 Report A is a powerful and important bill that represents our best chance to hold utilities accountable this legislative session.
Maine people deserve electric utilities that lead across a broad range of performance measures, including reliability, affordability, customer service, clean energy, grid modernization, and climate action. We believe that LD 1959 Report A will improve the quality of service for Maine people and help build the grid we need to meet climate goals at lower costs.
If you agree, tell your legislator to support LD 1959 Report A today [[link removed]] .
