Folks, I have a fun fact to share.

I recently became the first Senator to receive the Golden Gavel this Congress!

The Golden Gavel is given to the first Senator to log 100 hours of presiding over each Senate session, and I’m honored to receive it.

You see, learning the rules and procedures of the Senate floor is complicated, and it takes time to master. So freshman Senators like myself often spend the most time presiding, usually during quiet periods devoted to routine debate.

Think of it like study hall in high school — you get to set some time aside to work on assignments and brush up on material. In my case, I use it not only to familiarize myself with Senate procedures, but, more importantly, to read letters from constituents so that we are responsive to Coloradans.

So, it’s no waste of time. But it does mean that I don’t have as much room in my schedule to focus on hitting our fundraising goals — and our first end-of-quarter fundraising deadline of the year is just a few days away, so I’m counting on this grassroots team to help us hit our target.

Folks, will you chip in any amount today before we close the books for this quarter and our fundraising numbers go public? This end-of-quarter deadline is our chance to show just how strong this grassroots team is.

While I’m flattered to receive the award, the only folks who truly deserve the Golden Gavel right now are people like you — because you have stood up time and again to power our work. But if Mitch McConnell takes back control of the Senate, this accomplishment won’t feel so sweet.

Folks, let’s celebrate this award together by renewing our commitment to defending our slim Democratic majority — so we can keep making progress for Colorado and families across the country.
