Virginia’s elections are some of the safest in the United States. They have been for years, thanks in large part to Democrats passing legislation and running voter protection programs designed to protect voters and their ballots — no matter who they turn out for. Here’s a list of just a few things Virginia Democrats have done to expand access to the ballot box and keep our elections safe:

Added in safe and secure ballot drop boxes
Expanded vote by mail & in-person absentee voting access during the height of the pandemic
Removed Photo ID requirements
Implemented Same-Day Voter Registration (goes into effect in July)
Created no-excuse absentee voting

Here’s a list of what Virginia Republicans have tried to do on election security:

Amanda Chase called for a $70 Million forensic audit of the 2020 election, in 2022.
Ranted on the campaign trail about “Election Integrity”
Repeal the permanent absentee ballot list,
Reinstate photo ID requirements to vote,
Remove ballot drop boxes
Drastically reducing Virginia’s early voting period


It’s unfortunate, if predictable , that most of these attempts by the GOP have targeted minority voters. What is fortunate is that we have a strong Brick Wall in the Virginia Senate that has killed each one of these proposals (and more).
