State legislators are trying AGAIN to block Pennsylvania from joining a carbon reduction program to improve our air quality. One bill will even prevent the DEP from creating ANY regulation regulating carbon emissions!

Lawmakers keep reviving bills to stop us from joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) that had been sitting dormant – and they just decided to move them again.

We’re doing a full court press to stop these bills from being brought up for final votes – if they do, it's almost certain that the anti-environmental majority in the legislature will make sure they pass so that corporate backers can keep delaying Pennsylvania's participation in RGGI.

In fact, Pennsylvania would have received more than $200 million dollars this month if we had joined RGGI on schedule – but bills like SB 119 and HB 637 have prevented us from reaping these investments in cleaner air and healthier communities. 

We’re teaming up with partners across the state to send emails to state legislative offices before the day is over so they know we’re watching. Every member of the House, no matter where they stand on making polluters pay, needs to hear from their constituents right now.  

Please send a message to your representative and demand they stand up for clean air and reduced carbon pollution in Pennsylvania by speaking out AGAINST SB 119 and HB 637 >> 

Pennsylvania consistently ranks in the top 5 states when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions and has the most premature deaths per capita caused by air pollution of any state. Our region’s dirty energy legacy has caused childhood asthma, low birth weights, and chronic respiratory illness — and we know that people of color experience these impacts disproportionately.

Joining RGGI would cut carbon pollution by 25%, helping low-income communities have cleaner air so they can spend less money on expensive health care. And it would generate millions of dollars to invest in communities, including in local businesses and job training, weatherization of homes, and clean energy programs. 

It’s time for Pennsylvania to invest in sustainable jobs in our flourishing clean energy sector and reduce dangerous emissions. But to make that happen, the legislature needs to stop its political posturing and drop these reckless bills immediately.

Urge your State Representative to support RGGI and the benefits it would bring to our Commonwealth by voting NO on SB 119 and HB 637 >>
