John, let’s imagine a Congress with term limits in place: Nancy Pelosi would have BEEN OUT in 1995! Maxine Waters would have BEEN OUT in 1996! Chuck Schumer would have BEEN OUT in 2011! It’s time to tell the career politicians “you can’t serve forever!” Americans want citizen-leaders who get things done. That’s why I’ve always supported term limits on Congress – holding Senators to two terms and House members to three terms. That’s not a promise I take lightly. |
With these guardrails in place, we will finally be able to expect a Congress that serves America’s interests instead of its own interests – and so will our children and grandchildren. Term limits won’t benefit Republicans or Democrats. Term limits will benefit Americans – and I’ll fight to make sure it happens as soon as I’m back in Washington. |
