MICHIGAN COALITION FOR RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS "Promoting safe use and ownership of firearms through education, litigation, and legislation." MONDAY E'NEWS MCRGO Board Meeting Summary 3.24.22 12,780 current members as of 3.24.22, a 19.8% decrease from 12.4.21 and a 14.2% increase from 3.26.20. The decrease is a result of the expiration of 1 year student memberships following the COVID surge and will level out in April 2022. Art Joslin is appointed to fill the South Central seat vacancy created by the resignation of Sarah Rand. Education Committee is to be reformed. It will temporarily consist of the three Senior Master Instructors, the Board's representative, the Attorney, and the Executive Director. The Upper Peninsula Picnic will be scheduled for Ishpeming in early September. An Upper Peninsula Firearms Festival may take its place in 2022. The Fall Firearms Festival is tentatively planned to take place in Macomb County on September 24. Final approval is pending with the host club. MCRGO will continue to be present at both Outdoorama and the Ultimate Sports Show in 2023. A MCRGO Modern Rifle Program proposal and MCRGO Law Enforcement Program proposal are in development and will be presented to the Board at its June meeting. A proposal is in development to provide compensation to participating lawyers answering Ask an Attorney questions. Membership dues will increase by $5 for all membership categories for mail-in memberships only. Online memberships and renewals will not increase but will receive an email welcome letter rather than a printed and posted welcome letter. MCRGO is to award 10 scholarships of $200 each for MCRGO instructor candidates age 22-29 to attend workshops. No less than 5 of the scholarships must go to female candidates. MCRGO is to hire a graphic designer to revise training materials to provide a more professional uniform appearance. MCRGO's website is to be redesigned in 2023 to provide a modern appearance. MCRGO is neutral on HB 5677. MCRGO supports HB 5873 contingent on the refinement of the legislation. MCRGO strongly opposes HB 5907. MCRGO has tabled a position on SB 959.
