I believe that veterans make the best leaders. These are people who are
trained to fight for our freedom, our country, and our values. They have the
heart to lead and the heart to serve.
Mike Durant is a prime example of this. Mike is a 22-year Army veteran, where
he was a Black Hawk pilot. You might know Mike’s story from the movieBlack Hawk
Down. Mike served during combat Operation Gothic Serpent in Somalia in October
1993, where his Black Hawk helicopter was shot down by an RPG and crashed in
the city.

Somehow, Mike Durant survived. He was captured and held as a Prisoner of War
by a Somali General for eleven days and eventually released.
