Big Oil corporations are profiteering off of Vladimir Putin’s war, using rising gas prices to pad CEOs’ pockets. I’m working with my colleagues in Congress to hold these greedy oil companies accountable.

Corporations are blaming inflation for rising prices, when it’s really about corporate greed. Just look at this tweet from Senator Bernie Sanders:

	Why is the price of oil LOWER today than it was in 2014 while the average price for a gallon of gas nationwide is 80 cents a gallon HIGHER than it was eight years ago? Answer: Corporate greed. Now is no time for profiteering. Now is the time for a windfall profits tax.

That’s why I’m joining with my colleagues in demanding a windfall profits tax on Big Oil—and that the revenue be returned directly to the American people in the form of recurring, monthly payments.

There’s momentum in Congress to get this done. Can you pitch in to hold greedy polluting Big Oil accountable?

Even before my time in Congress, I’ve fought to hold oil corporations accountable—successfully demanding the Koch brothers and Marathon Oil clean up toxic pollutants on Detroit’s riverfront.

During the pandemic I’ve led the fight in Congress to oppose bailouts for the fossil fuel industry.

In my home state of Michigan, we saw firsthand how Marathon Petroleum laid off workers and then held onto COVID bailouts—making about $1 million per laid-off worker. That same year, its chief executive made $15.5 million—that’s 99 times the average company worker’s salary.

I’m fighting to ensure that these corporations pay their fair share, including by introducing the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act. It would raise taxes on companies that pay their top executives at least 50 times more than the pay of a median worker. The funds would then support critical services for working families.

In my hometown of Detroit, I’ve seen corporate CEOs treat Black and brown communities like we’re expendable, just for the sake of profits. And through campaign contributions and high-priced lobbyists, they dictate our public policy so they can escape accountability.

Many of my colleagues in Congress receive these corporate donations, and then turn around and block hard-fought progress for the people like the Build Back Better Act.

But I don’t take a single cent from corporate PACs. My duty is to the people, and I don’t back down when taking on billionaire bullies. Instead, I’m inspired by community heroes who have been fighting corporate polluters for decades, and who deserve bold leadership in government.

I won’t stop fighting for the right to breathe clean air and drink clean water, for workers’ rights, and for justice for all of us. I’m continuing to push to end poverty and bring much-needed resources to our communities.
