John, it’s plain as day. The Senate must confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Her qualifications are literally without parallel — and when compared to the GOP Senators questioning her, let's just say it’s embarrassing, for them.
Before Judge Jackson’s nomination, no Supreme Court Justice has served in so many capacities:
- Supreme Court clerk
- Public defender
- Sentencing Commission member
- District judge
- AND Court of Appeals judge
Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have spent most of the last few days hand-wringing and relitigating the last few Senate confirmations of Trump’s Supreme Court Justices. And baselessly attacking Judge Jackson. But it’s clear what the Senate must do:
Add your name to my urgent petition demanding the Senate confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to an appointment on the Supreme Court. President Biden could not have picked a more well-qualified nominee than her.
Republicans have said some truly loony stuff lately. One GOP Senator questioned the Supreme Court decision allowing women to obtain birth control without the consent of their spouse, as if women can’t make that choice themselves.
Another GOP Senator questioned the logic behind legalizing interracial marriage nationwide — like Judge Jackson’s own marriage — an insult to her family and to all of us who share the simple value that love is love.
That hasn’t been the only racist dog whistle or unsubtle attack on Judge Jackson as the first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court, and it won’t be the last. We need to take a forceful stand to support her.
As the Supreme Court considers cases to overturn Roe v. Wade and other foundational questions about what kind of country we will be, I’m personally asking you to stand with Judge Jackson by signing my petition in support of her historic nomination and to rebuke the Republicans’ attacks against her.
John, add your name to my petition demanding the Senate confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as our next Supreme Court Justice.
Try as they might to smear Judge Jackson’s name, Republican attacks cannot overshadow the joy and pride I’ve felt watching her testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. And the pride so many of you, I know, feel as well.
The Supreme Court, and our country, would be lucky to have her ascend to the highest court in the land.
Thanks for making your voice heard on her historic nomination.
