John,
Did you watch this week’s hearing?
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has finished three days of testimony, and what we’re witnessing is history in the making.
115 Justices have served in the history of the Supreme Court. 108 have been white men – just two men of color – and only five women, just one of color. When confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman.
I say “when confirmed” because this is Judge Jackson’s fourth time facing the Senate, and the previous three times she has passed muster, notably with bipartisan support less than one year ago.
Judge Jackson has the backing of the legal community with the American Bar Association rating her unanimously “Well Qualified” and she also has the backing of law enforcement, notably from the Fraternal Order of Police.
But even with all the broad and bipartisan support Judge Jackson has, we wouldn’t be in this moment if it wasn’t for a Democratic Majority in the Senate and Joe Biden in the White House.
So let me once again say thank you for all you have done to support me and other Democrats leading up to this moment – and if you can, contribute $5 now to reelect our Democratic Senate majority this year. [link removed]
My best,
Dick Durbin
