We will do everything in our power to ensure Cori's re-election.
John, we have one very important ask for you today:
Will you chip in $5 or more today to re-elect the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives elected to Congress? We're racing to hit $75,000 before Thursday's end-of-quarter fundraising deadline and every dollar will go toward keeping Cori in Congress.
To be candid, re-electing Cori is about more than symbolism. It's about keeping a true advocate for transforming our criminal-legal system in Congress.
Not many members of Congress will say without pause that we need to defund the police. But Cori will, because she knows we must divest from police departments that don't keep us safe and invest instead in our communities.
And not many members of Congress are doing the work day-in and day-out to transform our system of public safety and save lives, but Cori is. Cori introduced the People's Response Act to dismantle our instinct to criminalize and has been leading the call to finally pass meaningful policies to end police brutality.
This is because not many other members of Congress have experienced the pain of police violence firsthand like Cori has or been brutalized just for saying your life matters. When Michael Brown Jr. was killed by the police in 2014, Cori took to the streets to co-organize and co-lead protests in Ferguson for 400 days, facing rubber bullets, real bullets, tear gas, and more.
John, plenty of people want to see us fail — our opponents, the GOP, even some members of the Democratic establishment. But making progress on saving Black lives includes keeping Cori in office, so we will do everything in our power to ensure Cori's re-election.
Together, we made history and elected the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress in 2020 — but we have to continue working every single day to protect Black lives. We won't stop until we get justice.
