We talk a lot about FEC fundraising deadlines, so we wanted to take a moment to explain why they are so important to Mark Kelly’s chances.

When an FEC deadline ends, candidates are legally required to report how much money they’ve raised. Right now, our opponents don’t know what we’ve raised. And we don’t know what they’ve raised either.

There could be campaigns, PACs, or dark money groups that have raised absurd amounts of money and are ready to spring it on us. That could mean attacks ads on TV, on radio, online, billboards — even blimps. Seriously.

We have to raise everything we can so we’re prepared to fight back.

At the same time, outside groups will be looking to see what we’ve raised. They’ll want to know if we’re vulnerable. If we are, they’re more likely to attack. But if we file a strong report, they’ll be less likely to attack.

That’s why these deadlines are so important — strategically and practically. We look at all these reports and make budget decisions.

And since these emails are the primary way Mark Kelly’s campaign raises money, it means we have to ask:

Can you please make a $3 contribution to Mark Kelly’s re-election campaign before this critical FEC fundraising deadline ends in just a few days? We would not ask if it were not so important.
