To keep control of Congress, Democrats need to win big in the Central Valley and Orange County.

Dear Friend,

Election experts are predicting a red wave in the 2022 midterms, with the GOP winning control of the House and even the Senate -- an utter nightmare for all the progressive causes we care about.

But here’s what most of the political pundits are missing: Democrats have a clear path to keeping their majority, and it runs right through Orange County and the Central Valley.

If incumbents like Katie Porter win, and Democrats flip the GOP seats in California, which just got more competitive due to new maps -- including Devin Nunes’ old district -- they can keep control of the U.S. House.

And as the Latino Community Foundation told the L.A. Times: “If Democrats maintain control of the House, it will be because Latino voters came out in places like Orange County and the Central Valley.”(1) That's why, right now, Courage California is polling in four congressional districts with partners on the ground there to hone the message we need to win. But high-quality polls are expensive, and we need your support to reach as many respondents as possible.

Will you chip in $5 to help keep the House from a GOP takeover?

The punditry class has all but written off the Democrats in this year’s elections. But we can’t afford to do that. The stakes are too high -- from how we confront the climate crisis to whether we shrink income inequality.

California holds the key to Democrats retaining their House majority. The state has as many as ten competitive districts, most of them now held by Republicans.(2) We also gained six new majority-Latinx districts -- a huge opportunity to make sure representation in Congress matches the population.(3)

But it’s vital we do not take Latinx voters for granted. In the 2020 elections, Trump gained ground with these voters in California and around the country.(4) A history of excluding Latinx voters in the Central Valley breeds distrust and lack of participation.(5) And turnout is always lower among all voters in midterm elections.

To help turn out the vote, we can’t take a single voter for granted, especially young and BIPOC voters. Courage California is conducting polling in four swing congressional districts in the Central Valley and Orange County to ensure we can reach them.

That’s why Courage California is investing now in polling to help us craft the best messages to persuade Latinx voters and motivate them to cast their ballots in four key districts. Will you chip in $5?

Yours in the fight to keep the House,

Irene, along with Amber, Angela, Annie, Isidra, Jay, Lindsay, LisaMarie, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage team)
