I realized that I left out an important point before: This fight isn't just about stopping abortion bans, it's about shoring up access to abortion in states that aren't fighting bans. We need these states ready to serve as a lifeline for people who can no longer access abortion where they live.

States like Oregon and Washington, where advocates helped pass several new laws that will strengthen and expand abortion access — and not a minute too late, as nearby Idaho just became the first state to enact a copycat Texas-style six-week abortion ban.

Fight the bans with us and help pass laws in states that need to prepare to help all of the people who might lose abortion access this year »

I can't overstate how much the fight to protect abortion access needs your support. Please, take a minute right now and pitch in whatever you can  »

We anticipate that the Supreme Court will end or diminish legal protections for abortion in the next few months, and abortion opponents are rushing to pass the most far-reaching restrictions we've ever seen.

We're fighting to stop abortion bans in states nationwide. That means working with local Planned Parenthood organizations, coalition partners, and grassroots advocates to flood lawmakers' inboxes and phone lines to let them know how we feel — as well as training and organizing volunteers to speak up at legislative hearings and protests, garner media attention, and more.

Not everyone can show up at the statehouse, but many people can make a gift. We're looking for 500 people to contribute to the fight this week. Can we count you in?

I won't lie — the battle in state legislatures is tough, and we're not going to win all of these fights. But it is not a foregone conclusion that all of these proposed bans will become law.

Two weeks ago, the Arkansas legislature adjourned for the year without passing a Texas-style "sue thy neighbor" abortion ban. At the beginning of the session, it seemed sure to pass. With partners, we beat back the proposal five separate times.

South Carolina has a "trigger" ban in motion — which tries to completely ban abortion in the state as soon as the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. This bill is especially horrific as it could implicate the death penalty for providers who violate the law.

But based on what we're hearing on the ground in South Carolina, we have a real chance of stopping this outrageous attack. Your gift today can help keep Planned Parenthood activists and organizations across the country focused where they should be — on beating back these awful bans.

I know it's frustrating to see these attacks continue year after year after year. Frustrating. Frightening. Exhausting.

I also know that we don't always get to pick the fights that need fighting. Sometimes the fights pick us. A lot of people say they're for abortion rights, but not nearly enough people put their time, energy, and money into protecting our right to abortion and expanding access to it.

That work often falls on those most harmed when we lose rights and access — Black and Brown women, trans and nonbinary folks, people earning low incomes, and people who live in rural communities, where health care can be extremely hard to access.

It's unjust for the most vulnerable people to shoulder so much of this fight. When we all work together, contributing in whatever ways we can, it's also much, much easier to win.

We proved that a few years ago when we beat back the repeal of Obamacare and stopped efforts to "defund" Planned Parenthood. We proved that with the wave of reproductive rights champions we helped elect in the 2018 midterms, and when we snatched back the White House from one of the most dangerous administrations in history.

We didn't pick those fights either. They picked us. We banded together in a broad coalition, and we won.

We need that level of fight once again. Our teams on the ground need every resource we can give. So, please, please, please — pitch in  »
