For weeks the coastal city of Mariupol in southeastern Ukraine has been cut off from humanitarian aid, surrounded by Russian military forces and subjected to repeated artillery and aerial bombardment. Many people remain trapped inside the city in dire conditions, without electricity, gas, or clean water. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is calling for civilians to be protected under the rules of war and urging safe passage for those who want to leave the besieged city. This week we received a personal account from an MSF staff member who was born and raised in Mariupol, but forced to escape the extreme dangers. Read his story of living in a city under bombardment, fleeing home, and coping with the pain of separation from
those left behind. Read more.
