Dear John,

Thank you to everyone who took action this week urging President Biden to restore the right to claim asylum. The U.S. should welcome people fleeing violence and oppression, not turn them away. If you haven’t yet taken action, please send your message today. [link removed]

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

TODAY (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT): Join our online film screening of “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin”: [link removed] The film honors Bayard Rustin (1912-1987), human rights activist and social critic. The screening will be followed by a discussion between Walter Nagle, Bayard Rustin’s partner and adopted son, and Dr. Sa’ed Atshan, Swarthmore associate professor of peace studies. This event is part of the Black Quaker Lives Matter Film Festival.

National study shows many Americans oppose Gaza blockade: [link removed] Last November, AFSC conducted a poll of 1,000 U.S. adults. We wanted to know what people thought about the Gaza blockade, and whether having more information would influence their thinking. One thing we discovered: about half of U.S. adults oppose the Gaza blockade. Read more about our key findings.

Register now: Guided by the light of our North Star, above and within (Mon., Apr. 4, 7 P.M. ET / 4 P.M. PT): [link removed] Join AFSC’s Lewis Webb, Jr. and Mary Zerkel as they introduce AFSC’s new, healing-focused vision for community safety beyond policing and prisons – our North Star. Journey with us toward a just, peaceful, and sustainable world free of violence, inequality, and oppression. This workshop is part of AFSC’s annual (virtual) meeting.

How to intervene if someone is being harassed: [link removed] Across the country, we are seeing states file anti-Trans, anti-Black, and other oppressive bills. This amplifies and emboldens an atmosphere of harassment and violence in a wide array of public settings. Have you ever wondered what should you do if you witness public instances of interpersonal violence or harassment? Use our tips to assess how to intervene while considering the safety of everyone involved.

Support courageous action for a just world: [link removed] Give today to help us reach our goal of 600 donors by March 31.

Be well and take care
