Issue 12

My fellow Republicans,

Our Senate District Conventions are tomorrow! There are four separate conventions at four different locations. I’m a delegate to the SD25 Convention, but I will try to swing by all four if I can. Even if you aren’t a delegate or alternate, you should consider attending as a spectator. The Resolutions Committee in each convention will present a set of resolutions gathered in March 1’s Precinct Conventions. Once approved, they’ll be sent to the Republican Party of Texas State Convention for debate and eventual inclusion in a new state party platform. The delegates we choose tomorrow to represent us in Houston, on June 16-18, will elect new members of the State Republican Executive Committee and finalize the platform.

The next election in Bexar County is the “non-partisan” election on May 7. The Express-News interviewed me about the enormous bonds on the ballot in the Northwest ISD and the City of San Antonio. See https://www.expressnews.com/politics/article/Bexar-County-Republicans-oppose-bond-17026306.php I must have hit a nerve. I know city officials read it because they confronted me at a public forum promoting the bond. The Executive Committee didn’t vote on a resolution to oppose these bonds. But personally, I think voters need to understand that these bonds, if passed, will result in billions of dollars in additional tax that falls on the shoulders of every San Antonio resident.

As you’ll remember, I arranged several sessions last year on how to challenge your home appraisal. As a continuation of that focus on property tax, we had a successful program at headquarters Wednesday on the details of these bonds, presented by my friend Amy Hedtke. I’d like to thank those who came; they apparently learned a great deal. Her PAC, Texans for Freedom, needs local volunteers to take the lead here in San Antonio because she has other bonds to fight in other cities. You can reach her at 682 209 7015.

Chairman

In case you missed this story yesterday:

“They may not be planning to raise our taxes

quote-unquote, but that’s the effect. Somebody’s
