John,
The end of the first fundraising quarter of the election year is quickly approaching, so our team has been working hard to ensure that Jared puts forward the strongest finance report possible. If you want to help us reach our first quarterly fundraising goal of 2022, you can chip in here:
We want to keep you up-to-date on Jared’s work advocating for Mainers and breaking through partisan gridlock in Congress, so here is just some of what Rep. Golden has been working on since our last newsletter.
SUPPORTING MAINE’S HERITAGE INDUSTRIES THROUGH COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING REQUESTS:
Jared secured:
- $1 million in federal funding to expand the Mechanized Logging Operations Training Program at Northern Maine Community College, which gives Mainers the skills and experience to operate the advanced machinery necessary for modern logging.
- $300,000 in federal funding for the East Millinocket Fire Department to buy four-wheel drive ambulances. The new vehicles will help the department respond swiftly to emergencies across their remote service area.
- $1 million in federal funding for the Maine Community College System to build a mobile welding lab. The new lab will allow all seven of Maine Community Colleges to offer welding and manufacturing training, skills in high demand from Bath Iron Works and other employers.
SECURING FEDERAL FUNDING IN FISCAL YEAR 2022 APPROPRIATIONS BILLS:
Jared, along with Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Rep. Pingree, secured over $17 million in federal funding to support Maine’s lobster industry. This will help Maine’s lobster industry cover the costs incurred by lobstermen as a result of misguided rules.
Jared, along with Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, also secured:
- $1.7 million in federal funding for the Livermore Falls and Jay wastewater treatment facility. This will help support local economies along the Androscoggin River with cleaner water through much-needed upgrades and repairs.
- More than $400,000 in federal funding to support the renovation of Johnson Hall in Gardiner. For more than 150 years, Johnson Hall has been a gathering place for people in Kennebec County, and the investment will help preserve this community institution.
- $1 million in federal funding for a biodigester at the Forest Products Hub in Madison. The Madison mill site has real potential, and the funding will play a key role in its revitalization.
- $1 million in federal funding for the construction of a new Rumford Fire Station. The construction of a new fire station in Rumford will help these first responders do their jobs and keep them and the Rumford community safe.
- A $1 million federal investment for the renovation of the roof of the Bates Mill #5 building in downtown Lewiston. This investment will help remove some of the last big obstacles to the development of the building and completing the redevelopment of the Bates Mill complex.
DRIVING DOWN GAS PRICES:
Americans are paying too much at the gas pump and on heating bills. This month, Jared led a bipartisan letter to the White House to call on President Biden to use his powers under the Defense Production Act to provide financial incentives and help procure equipment so American companies can boost oil and gas production and bring down high energy prices.
SUPPORTING MAINE TRIBES:
The Wabanaki tribes in Maine have long been excluded from certain key federal laws and programs that benefit tribes because of an agreement negotiated decades ago. Jared proposed a first step to change that by working with tribal leaders to introduce the Advancing Equality for Wabanaki Nations Act. This bill would begin to help put the Wabanaki tribes on a more level playing field with other federally-recognized tribes in the country.
ATTENDING THE CAN-AM CROWN INTERNATIONAL SLED DOG RACE:
Earlier in March, Jared had a great time attending and meeting with Mainers at the annual Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race in Fort Kent.
We know that none of this would have been possible without your continued support. Thank you for being on our team.
Sincerely,
Team Golden
P.S. The GOP establishment has listed Jared as a top target for 2022, and dark money groups have already spent over $2.5 million in our district to attack Jared’s record. We can’t let them undo all the progress we have made, so if you can, will you chip in $5 or more before our FEC deadline at the end of the month to help Jared continue this important work on behalf of ME-02 in Congress?
