Friend,

Yesterday, the confirmation hearings wrapped up for the historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. And Friend, I’m extremely appalled, but not surprised, by the embarrassing behavior from our Texas Senators.

Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn could have taken the opportunity in this week's confirmation hearings to applaud Judge Jackson’s impressive track record or undeniable qualifications, despite calling her nomination “inspirational” and “long overdue.”

No. They instead used this historic moment as political theater to fuel racist bigotry. Senators Cruz and Cornyn have clearly abandoned their role as lawmakers and are using the Judiciary Committee as a platform to grandstand, pander to their base, and garner sound bites. They’re so blinded by their own nonsense, they refuse to see that we have the most qualified Supreme Court nominee in years.

Friend, I don’t know about you, but I’m over these Senators’ devotion to divisive culture wars and hateful propaganda over fighting for working Texans or ensuring equal justice for all.

Despite Cornyn, Cruz, and other Senate Republicans’ countless attacks and attempts to destroy her reputation, Judge Jackson powered through these hearings with poise and grace. It's clear that she will make a fantastic addition to our Supreme Court.

So will you join me in urging Senators Cruz and Cornyn to actually serve Texans for once in their career and vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson:

Friend, if they vote against her nomination, they will be proving to us yet again that they, and Republicans like them, don’t deserve to lead our state or our country. At the end of the day, it’s up to us to vote out Texas Republicans who continue to spread lies and racism to gain political points.
