Friend,
As gas prices have gone up around the country, fossil fuel corporations are raking in record profits. They’re taking advantage of a global crisis to pad their CEOs’ pockets, all at our expense. That’s why it’s time for a windfall tax on their excess profits.
I’m proud to be an original co-sponsor of multiple bills in the House to tax Big Oil corporations—and to send that money back to the people in the form of recurring monthly tax credits.
Many people live paycheck to paycheck, and we know the best way to address poverty is by putting money directly in people’s pockets. That’s why throughout the pandemic, I’ve led the fight to get recurring stimulus payments directly to the people. Now we have another chance to support working families while holding Big Oil accountable.
Add your name if you agree: It’s time to tax greedy oil companies and send that money back to the people.
Fossil fuel corporations are heavily subsidized with our tax money.
It’s time to end these subsidies, and end our dependence on fossil fuels. Instead, we must invest in alternatives such as renewable energy and public transit.
During the pandemic, I’ve led members of Congress in opposing COVID bailouts for the fossil fuel industry.
However, the fossil fuel industry is extremely powerful in Washington, DC and across the globe, even blocking progress at international climate change negotiations.
Fossil fuel corporations ended up getting billions of our tax dollars during the pandemic, and made record profits—and then proceeded to lay off tens of thousands of their workers.
Where did that money go? Directly to corporate executives and wealthy shareholders.
One of these corporations is Marathon Petroleum, which received a whopping $2.1 BILLION in tax benefits. I’ve gone up against Marathon many times, since they continue to violate air permits in my district—poisoning our residents. Community members and I have won hard-fought campaigns to hold Marathon accountable, including forcing them to remove pollutants from Detroit’s riverfront.
I’ve seen first-hand how fossil fuel corporations treat our communities as expendable while paying their executives massive salaries.
No more.
Sign the petition to tell Congress: It’s time for a windfall profits tax on Big Oil.
In solidarity,
Rashida
