Founded by a group of pioneering feminist activists, Peace Over Violence has always been dedicated to supporting and empowering women. Women's History Month is all about celebrating women and their contributions to making our world a better place, something near and dear to us at POV. We recognize and celebrate all those who have fought and continue to fight for a just and equitable world.
It has now been two years since the COVID-19 pandemic upended our world. And while our daily lives go on and we continue to navigate opening back up to the public and new guidelines in place, we acknowledge that we are also witnessing a devastating war. We stand with the people of Ukraine during this time of unprovoked and unjustified attack. We are recommitted to our mission of building healthy families and communities and our vision of a world free from violence.

For over 15 years serving on Peace Over Violence’s Board of Directors, Michelle participated in the agency’s most transformative event…its renaming and rebranding from the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women (LACAAW). This important change helped expand POV’s national recognition and put POV on the map internationally. This along with representing the BOD in the 2015 launch of Italy’s Denim Day in Milan are just two of her favorite and memorable POV accomplishments.
As a sexual assault survivor herself, Michelle learned of the critical need and importance of support organizations like POV, which is why she passionately promotes and raises awareness on this very important issue.
“It has been such a rewarding experience working with Patti and her talented team of professionals. I knew immediately when I took their self-defense class that POV (then LACAAW) offered me a way to help other survivors, something I had wanted to do for years. The vision and mission to end all forms of violence for everyone, not just women, sets POV apart and provides a platform for everyone and anyone to realize a world without violence.”
Even with a demanding career as a Vice President for a leading national insurance broker, contributing where she can as a POV Advisory Board member, including fundraising and donating, or fostering and volunteering for a local Golden Retriever rescue, helping others will always be a top priority for Michelle.
** Denim Day is NEXT MONTH

POV's international sexual violence prevention and education campaign, Denim Day, is just around the corner. This year is the 23rd Denim Day, which was inspired by the overturning of a rape case in Italy because the victim was wearing "tight jeans." Denim Day 2022 theme emphasizes the relevance of one of the original campaign messages: there is STILL no excuse and never an invitation to rape. Join us on Wednesday, April 27th when millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence!

** Peer-To-Peer Fundraising Highlight

In 2021, fans of British singer/songwriter Harry Styles at HL Daily wanted to honor him on his birthday in a campaign to promote his message of love, acceptance, and kindness. They chose POV as a beneficiary of their global peer-to-peer fundraising effort stating that “providing safe spaces and healing for survivors of DV is a cause that's very close to our hearts. We feel incredibly blessed to have a platform in Harry's fandom that we can use to directly help people in need. We're so happy that our fundraiser was able to help your organization during the pandemic. Our hearts go out to everyone who was stuck quarantined in an unsafe space and we're forever grateful for organizations like yours that were able to provide relief for them."
After a very successful campaign in 2021, their Twitter followers increased to 527,000 and they raised their 2022 goal. To date, fans from as far away as Abu Dhabi and as near as Simi Valley have raised over $14,000 for POV with 1,209 individual donations averaging $13 each.
