Friend,
Today, AU filed our written brief with the Supreme Court in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. As the lead attorneys for the district, we made the definitive case for why the school district did the right thing to stop a football coach’s public prayer practice because it violated students’ religious freedom. The brief is the culmination of thousands of work hours, laying out clear, strong arguments to the court: We have the facts and the law on our side.
With just one month left until oral arguments on April 25, the brief is one of the most important documents the justices will review in deciding the case. I could not be prouder of our team for all the work that has gone into representing Bremerton—but also fighting for the constitutional rights of every public school student nationwide and all Americans.
Help us continue our critical work protecting religious freedom.

The separation of church and state—a bedrock constitutional principle—means that no student should ever have to choose between their religious freedom and being part of the team. No teachers or coaches should ever lead public school students in prayer.
The lower courts in this case repeatedly found that some students felt coerced by their football coach’s public prayer practice.
Simply put: Students felt pressured to pray to play.
We can’t let that happen. Help protect students from coercive prayer.

Coach Kennedy’s lawyers and the well-funded shadow network behind them have spun a deceitful narrative in an effort to undermine church-state separation, the foundational principle that protects the religious freedom of students. That’s why this case is so critical—a loss would dangerously erode a core principle of our democracy.
AU is the first and last line of defense for the public school students, parents, school districts, and communities endangered by this calculated assault on church-state separation.
Please contribute now and help make Kennedy v. Bremerton School District a watershed moment in the fight for church-state separation.
Thank you.
