Hi John,
With just a few days left to finalize the budget, Governor Hochul is stalling the process and putting critical community investments — including child care — in jeopardy. Email our State Leaders now and tell them we need a budget with no less than $3 billion for child care!
Normally at this point in the state budget process, negotiations would be well underway. But for the past week, no one in Albany has been talking about child care, housing… or for that matter, any budget issues at all.
Instead, Governor Hocul has hijacked negotiations, and instead is forcing the Senate and Assembly to debate rollbacks to bail reform — a policy issue, not a budget issue. We need Governor Hochul to get back to talking about child care and the issues that are important to our communities so that we can have an on-time budget. And we need Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Speaker Heastie to hold the line on bail rollbacks, and stay united in their push to make universal child care a reality! Email them all now telling them we need a budget with at least $3 billion for child care, not bail rollbacks.
Before taking office, Governor Hochul positioned herself as a champion of child care. But she is already reneging on promises to New Yorkers. She promised to make child care a priority, and she promised to hold the line on bail.
We need Governor Hochul to keep her promises to New Yorkers, and we need Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Speaker Heastie to stand together in protecting bail reform and prioritizing children and families in the budget.
Email our state leaders now and tell them we need them to protect New York’s bail reform laws, and fight for no less than $3 billion for child care in the state budget. In solidarity,
