House Committee calls for FRC to lose nonprofit status

Dear John,

Our opponents are trying to take biblical voices like FRC out of the battle of ideas in the public square, but we will not be intimidated -- we will NOT be silenced.

Let me update you on a developing situation.

On September 19, a subgroup of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee spent hours of taxpayer-funded time on a hearing entitled "How the Tax Code Subsidizes Hate."

Dozens of members of Congress and their staff -- including some conservative Republicans who were present in an attempt to speak truth -- listened as liberals demanded that 60 so-called "hate groups" have their tax-exempt status removed.

(Keep in mind, these are the same far-left leaders in the U.S. House who get defensive when President Trump calls them a "do-nothing Congress.")

Among the groups named in the hearing was Family Research Council, along with American Family Association (AFA), our partner for FRC's daily radio show.

Could you help us in this hour with a vital donation as we approach the end of the year?

FRC needs your help. Last April, LGBT activist groups subpoenaed FRC, demanding we provide all communications between FRC leaders and the White House regarding the return to the status quo policy of not allowing individuals who identify as transgender to serve in the military.

We had to retain a law firm to defend our First Amendment religious freedom and free speech rights.

Now, liberal activists want to weaponize the IRS against Christian nonprofits and others with whom they disagree.

And don't think for a second that they'll stop with their list of 60.

This is exactly what conservatives warned about, even before the Obergefell Supreme Court ruling forced same-sex marriage on the nation. A full two years earlier, Lois Lerner's stealth attack against conservatives was already well underway at the IRS.

And it was way before that -- 2006 -- when Chai Feldblum, an eventual Obama appointee, laid out the framework that would become the Left's gospel: When religious liberty and sexuality conflict, religious liberty should never win.

If they succeed in making the Bible "hate speech," they'll march on to America's churches -- and then to anyone with views that are considered politically incorrect. Liberals will use the power of government to financially punish believers like you and me.

One Democratic leader admitted as much when asked just a few weeks ago by Don Lemon on CNN if he thinks that religious institutions -- "like colleges, churches, charities -- should they lose their tax-exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage?"

"Yes," shot back the former Congressman. "There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for anyone, or any institution, any organization in America that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us."

FRC's time and resources are scarce, yet we must repel these attacks, for the benefit of everyone. In this hour of need, will you step forward in support of our mission to advance faith, family, and freedom?

FRC is not backing down from these insidious attacks. We will utilize every available tool to stand up for faith, family, and your freedoms -- here in Washington and across the country.

Our daily radio show, "Washington Watch," now airs on 336 stations, reaching millions of listeners across the land.

FRC's social media presence keeps growing, despite the Left's relentless effort to censor conservative voices -- and FRC spokespersons continue to make frequent appearances in the news.

I hope you will join us and support FRC with your best gift as we push back against these unrelenting attacks on the values that we share. Thank you in advance.

P.S. - The attacks FRC faces right now are very real, including most recently from a powerful committee in the U.S. House. If standing against injustice stirs your heart, we need you to stand with us now. Will you prayerfully consider a generous gift to help us?
