John,
A few days ago, the Florida state legislature moved to send the Parental Rights in Education bill, better known as the “Don’t Say Gay” proposal, to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk, just days after passing one of the most extreme abortion bans in the history of the state.
As Florida politicians continue their attack on body autonomy by passing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation targeting children and families, we see that their actions are transparent attempts to seize power and control.
We cannot let an overly-funded extreme minority of politicians dictate personal and foundational life moments like when, how, and with whom we decide to build a family.
For far too long, we’ve waited on Congress and the courts to do the bare minimum to protect us. We’ve watched the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Equality Act stall in the Senate, while GOP-controlled courts hack away at abortion access and other fundamental rights.
Both acts need to be passed; it is long overdue for the federal government to codify Roe and enshrine LGBTQ+ protections in our laws. Add your name if you agree.
We can’t keep closing our eyes and crossing our fingers, waiting for them to do the right thing. We need champions who are willing to fight in our communities
This is exactly why Florida remains a priority for our work — the Venn diagram between anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ politicians is a circle, and we need and deserve champions who will fight in our communities and in our statehouses, where these attacks so often originate.
Thank you for standing with us,
#VOTEPROCHOICE
P.S. We're scaling up our efforts to support candidates in the areas where reproductive freedom is most at risk (like Florida!) — we've brought on new prochoice candidate coaches and we're investing more in our candidate resources than ever before! If you're able, please support our work in Florida with a contribution of just $15.
