Now more than ever, we need to protect the voice of the American voter and
combat the corrupting influence of dark money over our elections.

The Supreme Court’s decision in the landmark Citizens United v. FEC case
overturned decades of precedent, deregulated corporate campaign spending,
and allowed billions of dollars in dark money to flow into our elections.

By allowing wealthy donors and corporations to give unlimited sums of
money, Citizens United opened the door for the creation of Super PACs
which spend those dark and untraceable dollars. This has spurred an
endless deluge of sensationalized and misinformed political ads that have
divided and disillusioned our country and its politics.

I just introduced a Constitutional Amendment to overturn the Supreme
Court’s ruling in Citizens United and to protect our elections from
unrestrained spending by wealthy donors and corporations.

Dark money has weakened the voices of our people – allowing for dark
interests to sway the tides of public opinion. And it’s allowed for
individuals and corporations to buy elections, at the local, state, and
federal levels.

That is not how our democracy should function. One person, one vote.
Drowning out or diminishing a voter's voice with the power of capital is
at odds with how our system is supposed to work.

That’s why I introduced this Constitutional Amendment. I know it’s a tall
task to accomplish. But it’s the right thing to do. Together, we can work
to bring an end to the stranglehold of dark money on our Democracy.

Citizens United overturned decades' worth of precedent, weakened campaign
finance laws, and magnified the power of wealthy donors and corporations
in our electoral process. Meanwhile, it minimized the strength of voices
like yours. And I cannot stand for that.

Americans have the most say in our elections.
