We saw the deadliest year of gun violence in 2021 and if we stand a chance of preventing another deadly record, we need to get weapons of war off our streets.
Assault rifles have been the weapon of choice for some of the most heinous mass shootings in our country and it's only because the ban on these deadly weapons – proven to effectively save lies – has not been reinstated for nearly 20 years.
It is long past time for life-saving change, John. Our lawmakers need to understand the urgency of this issue and finally ban deadly assault weapons.
We know what's stopped this work before: the cowardice and money-hungry opportunism of NRA stooges like Mitch McConnell. But we fought hard to take away his power and elect gun violence champions. We set a foundation, and now, we have to build upon that momentum.
