Dear John,
Each year, millions of sharks have their fins chopped off. Unable to survive without their fins, their bodies are discarded into the sea. And it’s all to fuel the global shark fin trade. Sharks need your help NOW!
Shark finning is illegal in U.S. waters. But fins can still be bought and sold within the United States -- including fins from countries with weaker shark protections. We must close these loopholes and put an end to this horrific industry.
The good news: Congress will vote on the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act as soon as TODAY. This bill will strengthen shark protections and help end the shark fin trade. But your Representative will only vote Yes on this bill if they feel pressure from constituents like you -- and you only have a few hours to act!
Urgent action needed: Tell your Representative to stop the horrific shark fin trade!
For more than 400 million years, sharks have played a critical role in global food chains and reigned over our oceans. But now these ocean masters are being pushed to the brink of extinction. The cause: overfishing and the global shark fin trade.
Every year, nearly 73 million sharks are fished and dismembered to fuel the fin trade. Shark populations are catastrophically declining -- dying at rates faster than previously predicted.
In June of 2016, Congress introduced the bipartisan Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act. This bill would’ve banned the trading of shark fins in the United States years ago. But corporate cronies in Congress have kept this legislation on hold. Hundreds of millions of sharks have been slaughtered for economic gain due to their inaction.
The clock is ticking for these sharks. To ensure they are protected, your Representative must feel the grassroots pressure from constituents like you, John!
Tell your Representative: Protect sharks and help fight the inhumane global shark fin trade!
Make no mistake, John, you are not alone in your demands for Congress to pass better shark protections. You’re joining a broad community of engaged environmentalists that are demanding your legislators put an end to the archaic practice of cutting and killing sharks for profits.
To date, over 288 members of the House of Representatives have already indicated their support for this bill. However, until the votes are cast it’s unclear who will actually support shark protections over economic profit.
With your help, we can pressure our legislators to pass this critical legislation and protect sharks for years to come. But we must act fast!
Help send 30,000 messages to Congress: Tell your Representative to protect sharks and ban the sale of shark fins in the U.S.!
Standing with you,
Ariel Moger,
