Redistricting News Alert - NPR:“The 2020 census had big undercounts of Black people, Latinos and Native Americans”
John -- The work of democracy allies ultimately blocked the Trump administration’s usage of a “citizenship question” on the census. But as NPR reports, it looks like Trump’s efforts still impacted political representation for “Black people, Latinos and Native Americans.”
Conservatives know that gerrymandered maps are essential to maintaining their power -- and will deny political representation to any community they believe will not vote for their party at the polls. That much is apparent after seeing years of their attempted efforts to interfere with the census.
The undercount being reported in the 2020 census is deeply disappointing and we must do everything in our power to avoid a manipulated count in 2030. As Republicans see the success of fair map advocates in state after state, we expect they may work behind the scenes to ensure the next census count is manipulated to their party’s advantage.
If you made a donation to All On The Line right now, it would help us advocate for fair representation moving forward and continue to fight for fair redistricting. Will you pitch in?

A new report from the Census Bureau confirmed that 2020 undercounts of Black, Latino, and Native American communities were "larger in magnitude" than 2010 undercounts.
We must do better. Even after the 2021 redistricting cycle is completed, we must stay engaged and demand an accurate census count to serve as the foundation for fair redistricting for the next map-drawing cycle.
The Trump administration proved that Republicans are determined to manipulate the census count at the expense of communities of color.
