A few weeks ago, Congress voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act, a bipartisan bill to expand health care benefits for veterans exposed to toxic chemicals.

This comprehensive legislation is critical for so many Iowa veterans, yet my Republican opponent Rep. Miller-Meeks voted against this bipartisan bill. The PACT Act is going to honor our commitment to care for veterans impacted by toxic exposure. This bill has the support of 42 Veterans Service Organizations, whose members know firsthand the impact of prolonged exposure to toxic substances, such as burn pits.

It’s important that we fulfill our moral duty to support veterans living with health issues they experience as a result of their service to our country. With what’s at stake this year, we need more leaders in Washington who will step up to care for our veterans – which is what I’m prepared to do. Our veterans who have risked their lives to serve our nation with honor deserve every bit of support we can give them. I am proud Congress took the important step to bring relief to veterans and their families affected by toxic chemical exposure.
