BY GEORGETOWN INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY | Madeleine Albright, the first woman U.S. secretary of state, died of cancer on Wednesday, Mar. 23. She was 84 years old. She served many roles in the executive branch throughout her storied career, including President Bill Clinton’s ambassador to the United Nations and later his secretary of state.
As a tribute, we compiled some of her best remarks about her work as a women’s rights champion. Rest in power, Secretary Madeleine Albright.

Millions of Women Would Benefit From a Minimum Wage Hike—Far More than Men [[link removed]]
BY MARY BABIC | The parade of Equal Pay Days kicked off recently. The dates mark wage gaps for all women, Black women, Latina women—each one more disheartening than the last. According to the latest data, in most states, over 50 percent of women of color earn earn less than $15, and in some states, it soars to 70 percent.
The solution to closing these gender and racial wage gaps is simple: Raise the federal minimum wage. So why is the Senate blocking the Raise the Wage Act, a piece of legislation that would have a transformative impact on wages and well-being of people in this country?

Gendered Treatment: If Brittney Griner Were a Man, Would Russia Release Her? [[link removed]]
BY DANESHA LEWIS | WNBA Champion and All-Star Brittney Griner is reportedly detained in Russia until May 19 after Russian Federal Customs Service officials say they found vaping cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage on February 17. The 31-year-old U.S. basketball star was in the airport to return to the United States after playing for Russia during the WNBA off-season. Still, her release is not forthcoming, even as the Russian-instigated war in Ukraine remains the world’s biggest news.
Yet, the question remains that if a male NBA player were detained in Russia, would he be free by now?
