VPSA Guidance for People-first Messaging
As the U.S. Senate debates which values should define our justice system, weigh in with people-first language from our updated Criminal Justice Reform Phrase Guide. While momentum has grown for policymakers to improve the criminal system and adopt strategies that keep all communities safe, opponents to equal justice continue to deploy familiar messaging tactics that perpetuate misconceptions, reinforce stereotypes, and exploit fear to undermine progress — don't take the bait.
Use our guide to promote a more equitable conversation about both the harms of the criminal legal system and effective solutions to remedy them. Here are our five tips.
