Friends,
We have one week to contact the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC) and let them know that we oppose NW Natural’s efforts to increase gas customer rates by $81 million – or an average 11.8% bill increase for residential customers. The Commission needs to hear from all of us before making any decisions. Will you join us in emailing the Commission by March 31? We've made it really easy for you to do!
NW Natural is justifying this request to pay to expand fossil fuel infrastructure, increase executive salaries, and and increase the profits of its investors on Wall Street. As covered by the Sightline Institute earlier this week, it's clear NW Natural's profits are hurting as Oregon takes steps to transition to clean, renewable electricity. Now, the fossil fuel company wants to put the bill for its bad planning on its customers. Us. You.
This rate hike would be harmful in the best of times, but is particularly outrageous in a global pandemic, and as our communities already are experiencing first hand the impacts of the climate crisis. The Commission needs to hear from working Oregonians who shouldn't be on the hook for supporting a failing fossil fuel company. Email them today!
Onward,
The Breach Team
