If you believe that Donald Trump must be held accountable for his efforts to subvert our democracy, add your name today >>
John, it’s been weeks since the House’s January 6th investigators revealed that they have evidence suggesting Donald Trump committed multiple crimes while trying to overturn the 2020 election.
But as of now, the Department of Justice (DOJ) hasn’t announced plans to investigate their findings.
If Attorney General Merrick Garland and the DOJ look the other way on this, they’ll tacitly give Trump – and all future presidents – a green light to blatantly abuse their power and undermine our democracy for their personal gain.
Sign Now: The DOJ must immediately investigate this critical new information, and if the evidence demands it, present it to a grand jury to consider indicting Trump.
Because investigations are sensitive and people are entitled to the presumption of innocence, much of the DOJ's work is done confidentially – so there may be investigative efforts underway that the public doesn’t know about yet.
But whether or not this is the case – with all that is now a matter of public record, Attorney General Garland needs to hear that we’re counting on the DOJ to investigate, uphold the rule of law, and hold anyone who may have worked to subvert our elections, including Trump, accountable.
Earlier this month, the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection claimed it had a “good-faith basis” to believe that Trump and his associates mounted a “criminal conspiracy” to defraud the U.S. by preventing Congress from certifying President Biden’s 2020 win. [1]
In a court filing, the Select Committee says it has evidence to support allegations that Trump unlawfully spread dangerous disinformation about the integrity of our elections – and illegally pressured state officials and then-Vice President Mike Pence to throw out election results.
Add your name if you agree: the DOJ must launch a thorough and swift investigation into Donald Trump’s alleged criminal conduct.
John, this isn’t about political optics or partisan vendettas. This is about pursuing justice – and protecting our democracy from anyone who would go to such lengths to undermine it.
