We've got some big news, Friend:

The Trevor Project is launching its life-saving crisis services for LGBTQ youth in Mexico by the end of 2022 and we’re excited to help so many people — thank you for your support!

We're responding to the global public health crisis of LGBTQ youth suicide. An estimated 40+ million LGBTQ young people around the world seriously consider suicide each year. In Mexico specifically, it’s estimated that more than 745,000 LGBTQ youth ages 13-24 are in crisis.

The Trevor Project’s CEO and Executive Director, Amit Paley (he/they), said it best: “We believe that all LGBTQ young people — regardless of what country they live in — deserve the life-saving resources that The Trevor Project offers.”

Speaking Truth: "Focus Energy on Protecting All Texas Youth, Not Persecuting the Most Marginalized"

Sam Ames (they/them), Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs at The Trevor Project, testified at a meeting of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS): “The Texas DFPS has critical work to do in protecting young people from child abuse. This effort to redirect their resources toward the intimidation of families who support their transgender and nonbinary children is a dangerous distraction.”

“It’s worth emphasizing that young transgender and nonbinary people are overrepresented in the child welfare system — and those who have been in foster care report significantly higher rates of attempting suicide. That’s why it’s imperative to foster acceptance among families, not separate them.”

As SXSW Took Place in Texas, We Rallied Celebrity Support for Trans Youth and Their Families Being Unlawfully Investigated

The Trevor Project teamed up with celebrities to speak in support of transgender and nonbinary youth amid ongoing political attacks in Texas and across the country.

"Transgender and nonbinary young people deserve to live their lives without fear. It’s on all of us to spread love and to speak out against these relentless political attacks.”

— Jonathan Van Ness (they/he/she)

“As someone with roots and family in Texas, I’m incredibly disheartened over the hostile anti-LGBTQ+ measures in my home state. I stand by the transgender and non-binary youth, not only in Texas, but all over the world.”

— Lee Pace (he/him)

“I’m honored to continue working with The Trevor Project. It’s on us to make clear that trans rights are human rights. Texas youth should be able to live their lives without fear.”

— Adam Rippon (he/him)

Research: Conversion Therapy Harms People And Costs $9.23 Billions of Dollars Each Year

The Trevor Project completed the first known study to assess the socioeconomic impacts of conversion therapy in partnership with health economists at Cytel, a multinational research organization.

“We know conversion therapy has long been a burden on LGBTQ young people and their families, as the practice has consistently been associated with poor mental health and greater risk for suicide. But the economic costs this practice has on society are just starting to be understood,” said Casey Pick (she/her), Senior Fellow for Advocacy & Government Affairs at The Trevor Project.
