I have some exciting news – our campaign was just endorsed by FLIC Votes, an immigrant rights organization working to expand the electorate so it reflects the diversity of our state and to enact positive change in our communities.
As the daughter of Cuban exiles, my family fled persecution and found freedom in Miami. It was a Pedro Pan refugee and entrepreneur who gave my father the opportunity for his first professional accomplishment. This is why I am honored to have the support of an organization that is working to protect families like mine.
Just a few weeks ago, Republican lawmakers in Tallahassee passed a bill that targets immigrant children and punishes the religious organizations who attempt to reunite unaccompanied children with their family members.I joined business and faith leaders in speaking up against this bill, and I will continue to stand up for my community when I become your state Senator.
When I’m in Tallahassee, I’ll remain committed to protecting our democracy and expanding access to opportunity. I will always reject extremism and instead focus on building bridges that give every family a shot at the American Dream.
