Four years ago today, a group of high schoolers decided to take on the right-wing establishment and defend their right to live and learn. The March for Our Lives movement was a display of courage from the youngest in our country that still amazes me to this day.
Every time a senseless act of gun violence occurs, for those of us here in Colorado, the memory of the horrific events at Columbine high school almost 23 years ago floods back. Our children are our future and it is our duty to pave the way for a safe and successful journey. As a country, we must protect the lives of our children and our people above any gun, and resolve to end gun violence in America. We can’t allow what happened in Aurora, Columbine, Boulder, Parkland, Newtown, Las Vegas, and too many other cities to ever happen again.
We need to get assault weapons off of our streets, enhance background checks, and ban high-capacity gun magazines, and we need to do it now.
In the House, I was proud to be one of the first co-sponsors of the historic Bipartisan Background Checks Act. But we still need the Senate to pass this crucial legislation.
