Hi —
In case you missed it, the Senate began confirmation hearings this week for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic nomination to the nation's highest Court. If confirmed, Judge Jackson will be our country’s first Black woman Supreme Court Justice — a milestone in the fight for racial justice and equity.
This moment proves just how consequential our elections are. Two years ago today, President Biden vowed on the campaign trail to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. Now, we have a fair-minded jurist who will uphold the promise of equal justice under law as our nominee.
In an evenly divided Senate, we need every vote to ensure Judge Jackson gets confirmed. That’s why we’re participating in a Day of Action today with our partners in the Conservation Voter Movement. Will you join us in telling your senators to support her nomination?
Our environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who enforce them. The next Supreme Court Justice will have a critical role in upholding environmental justice legislation, enforcing climate and conservation laws, and holding big polluting corporations accountable. And given that communities of color bear the brunt of the climate crisis and are the targets for voter suppression laws, we need a justice who will make decisions with the best interest of communities of color in mind.
If you care about safeguarding clean air and clean water, protecting our wild places and wildlife, and empowering the government to combat climate change, you must care about our courts and the judges who interpret our laws. Black women have shown up time after time for the environmental movement, and it’s time for us to show up for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Please, friend, can you urge your Senators to act quickly and confirm Judge Jackson to the Supreme Court?
Thanks for adding your voice.
