We’re Amina and Mireya King, AKA John’s daughters. Today, we want to take a minute of your time to talk about the four year anniversary of the first March for Our Lives.
Back in 2018, we both participated in walkouts at our public schools in Montgomery County, Maryland. Kids our age had been hearing about school shootings for our entire lives, and it felt like nothing was being done about them. After the horrific shooting in Parkland, FL, students like us around the country finally decided it was time to take action — and if you want to join our day of action this year, we made a petition that you can sign to protect our schools and stop gun violence >> [[link removed]]

We have seen the pain in the survivors who spoke on TV, the grief of families of the victims who shared memories of their loved ones, and the fear of students at our own schools who discuss where we should hide in case a shooter walked into our school. When we saw so many people scared and angry that things weren’t changing, we knew it was time to show everyone how much change means to us.
The two of us are still worried about ourselves and others, and we will continue to support the fight for common-sense gun legislation to stop the violence in our country’s schools. This issue will not go away on its own, and our generation will not stop fighting until those in power do something about it. If you want to join us, you can add your name to the petition today.
