If you’re following the Senate hearings on social media or TV, it might feel like you’re watching a circus.

Ted Cruz is screaming about who-knows-what. Lindsey Graham is complaining about Brett Kavanaugh. And everyone else seems to be fighting for their 10 seconds of airtime.

Let’s cut the shit.

Yes, this nomination is historic: If confirmed, Justice Jackson will become the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court. It’s a big step forward in reshaping our justice system to consider the experiences of marginalized communities.

But it’s not the whole story – because right now, our civil rights are under attack.

State legislatures are making it illegal to teach about the LGBTQ+ community in schools. Some are even restricting access to healthcare for trans people and labeling them “criminals'' for being themselves.
Georgia, Florida, and more are making it virtually impossible for minorities or working-class voters to cast their ballot. Driven by Trump and Boebert’s “Big Lie”, early voting, drop boxes in rural areas, and mail-in ballots may all disappear for good.
Interest groups in Texas and Oklahoma are spending millions to outlaw abortion and erase Roe v. Wade for good – and experts say they’re getting dangerously close to succeeding.

Don’t let the snarky remarks from Cruz, the tweets from Boebert, or the tantrums from Hawley distract you from what’s really important.

So yes, it’s disgusting – but it’s also part of their plan to sow division and outrage so they can win in November and keep rolling back the rights of millions of Americans.
