Art That Heals: Seeking Survivors & Their Descendants

Watercolor artist Wilma Bulkin Siegel is an activist through her art, raising awareness of the human condition through large-scale portraiture. Her current project tells the story of antisemitism through the faces of third-generation descendants of Holocaust survivors. Peer Guide Training
Our peer-to-peer program gives young people an opportunity to gain expertise on Holocaust history, to work together to plan and assemble an exhibit, and to engage other students with reflections on the relevance of Anne Frank's story to the world's challenges today.

PICTURED ABOVE: The Anne Frank Center's "Private Photo Album" ([link removed]) exhibition features a series of family photos taken by Otto Frank before the war, everyday moments that show, in the words of a volunteer docent, "what a wonderful middle class family the Franks were." Then suddenly, she "realized that the dangers of prejudice that destroyed the Frank family continue today throughout the world."

We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer Plick on board as the AFC's new Director of Education, as we bring a message of compassion, hope, and humanity to more communities throughout the country.

With a passion for history, Jennifer has specialized in creating and managing unique educational experiences and programs for students, adults and families in many communities. With 20 years' museum experience, Jennifer most recently served as the Education Director at the Historical Society of Rockland County, New York, and has previously led educational programs at the Rye Historical Society, the Greenwich Historical Society, and Historic Hudson Valley in Tarrytown. She has a History degree from Mercy College, a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Manhattanville, and a Master's in progress at Marist College.

It's a bittersweet moment as we thank Maureen McNeil for her service as our Interim Director of Education this past year. An active artist, author, educator, and nonprofit leader, Maureen's assistance has been invaluable as she returned to bring the wisdom of her expertise and creativity to the AFC (Maureen's creativity is largely responsible for the development of our performances and artists-in-residency programs throughout the NYC metro area a decade ago. We look forward to a warm and continuing relationship.
