Hi Friend,

Did you know that Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, sex trafficking, and honor killings are happening right here, right now, on American soil?

These abhorrent cultural practices are some of the worst forms of violence against women. Yet, there is very little being done to protect American women and girls against it.

In fact, the current Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) turns a blind eye to these heinous, monstrous acts.

It’s unconscionable, considering that over half a million American women and girls are at risk of FGM alone, which leads to permanent and often devastating health problems.

Unfortunately, politicians are too busy playing politics to pass a comprehensive, modernized reauthorization of VAWA. Congress was
supposed to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act almost a year ago… but didn’t.
We must do better… and we must do more to protect survivors and those at risk from these horrific practices.

That’s why we must urge our senators to include greater protections from FGM, child marriage, sex trafficking, and honor killings in the reauthorization of VAWA.

The current bill, which was recently introduced in the Senate by Senator Dianne Feinstein, is partisan in nature and simply does not do enough to protect women and girls from these violent practices and forms of exploitation.

Politics and political correctness should never take precedence over protecting women and girls, particularly when the consequences are mutilation, rape, and murder.

Our women and girls deserve better.

Act now: tell your senators to stop the worst forms of violence against women, and support a real Violence Against Women Act.

Thank you for all you do,

Heather R. Higgins
