John,

Earlier this week, Republicans in the Kentucky legislature voted to override Andy's veto of bills to end the COVID-19 state of emergency and cut jobless benefits.

Let us be clear: this decision by lawmakers will have harmful consequences for thousands of Kentuckians. By ending the state of emergency, Kentuckians will miss out on millions of dollars in food support at a time when they need it the most.

These vetoes mean Kentuckians will see a loss of $50 million in food benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This comes out to an average of about $100 a month for recipients at a time when we're seeing the cost of food rising due to supply chain issues.

Unemployed Kentuckians will also see their benefits cut. The reduction of jobless benefits positions our state to be one of the least helpful when a worker loses a job at no fault of their own and disproportionately impacts our rural communities.

The legislature's vetoes are cruel and kick struggling Kentuckians while they're down. Now more than ever, our communities need support to get back on their feet.

Andy's doing everything he can to help Kentuckians recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Add your name to show your support of these important efforts →
