About Wahoo (Ono)

Your Wahoo was caught by Capt. Frank Crivello on the F/V Kaylee H out of San Diego using Pelagic Longline.

Also known as Ono, a Hawaiian word for "delicious," Wahoo has a wonderful, buttery flavor and is comparable to tuna in terms of its texture and how it can be prepared. Frozen Wahoo can be thawed and seared or made into a variety of raw dishes as well!

Fun facts: Wahoo are incredibly fast swimmers. As the 4th fastest fish in the ocean, they are capable of speeds up to 60 mph! It is said that explorers who first mapped the Hawaiian Islands found Ono to be plentiful off the island of Oahu. Maps of the time indicate that a very common spelling of the word “Oahu” was “Wahoo,” and this is believed to be the origin of the fish’s other name.
