Friend,
It’s National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, an annual campaign held by the National Institute on Drug Abuse which aims to shatter myths about drugs and drug use by connecting youth with facts and resources.
From an early age, most of us are exposed to fear-based messaging and misinformation about drugs that encourages an abstinence-only approach. This has failed to prevent drug use, stigmatizes and discourages those who choose to use from seeking help if they want it, and doesn't equip people with the fact-based information and strategies that are proven to help reduce the potential harms of drugs.
With science, evidence, and health at the heart of DPA’s mission, this week is a chance to counter harmful myths with honest information without the stigma, judgment, or fear tactics that have become all too common in these conversations:
You can also share these resources on Twitter using #NDAFW to join the social media conversation for this week of action.
Together, we need to empower each other with knowledge to push back on misinformation driven by the drug war and advocate for health alternatives that help and support people instead of punishing them.
Sincerely,
