MARCH FOR OUR LIVES STATEMENT ON THE FORCES THAT FUEL GUN VIOLENCE:
"We want to be clear about the forces that fuel gun violence in our
country. They are gun glorification, armed supremacy, political apathy and
corruption, poverty, and the national mental health crisis."

Tomorrow is the 4-year anniversary of March for Our Lives -- the protest
movement led by survivors of the horrific school shooting in Parkland, FL.
I was one of the three lead student organizers who brought out over 20,000
people in Houston to stand up for ending gun violence in this country.
We marched because we know we can never forget the unique and high risk of
gun violence faced by Americans. We also know that it does not have to be
this way.

gun violence. Members of Congress need to know that Americans want action
now -- before the next devastating mass shooting.
Over the months that followed the march, I and other organizers in Texas
encountered armed white supremacists many times as we fought for gun
safety.
I can’t really explain the terror you feel as a person of color when you
have white supremacists with assault rifles in your face. But we knew we
had to keep going.
Schools, places of worship, grocery stores, movie theaters, fast-food
restaurants, office buildings -- these are all places people have lost
their lives to gun violence.
Whether from domestic violence or domestic terrorism, nobody in this
country should have to worry that whether we stay in our homes or step
out, our lives could be ended by gun violence at any moment.
The root causes of gun violence can be addressed. We can end this
epidemic. We need not wait for the next mass shooting to take action. We
need to act now. And we need to act fast.

Thanks for being a bold progressive. And thanks for taking action to end
these PREVENTABLE deaths.
